Abstract The growth of electronic commerce, in particular business-to-consumer, had been explosive during the last few years. While currently focused in the ‘Western World,’ other areas of the world are poised to join the e-commerce phenomenon. Unfortunately, most web sites are designed and implemented with a ‘Western’ focus. Web-based business models are still in the nascent stage. Using Hofstede’s dimensions as a means of differentiation, this study explores perception and satisfaction levels of one hundred and sixty subjects - from Asia, Europe, North America, & South/Latin America - on four web sites - two domestic and two global. Analysis indicates that perceptual and satisfaction differences exist among the four cultural groups studied - Asia, Europe, Latin & South America, and North America. In particular, the perceptions of the Asian and Latin/South American are similar as are the perceptions of the Europeans and North Americans
